Corrigendum to “Gene expression profiling of human lymph node metastases and matched primary breast carcinomas: Clinical implications” [Mol. Oncol. 1 (2007) 172–180]
Article Outline
On page 178 (right column, line 47) in our recent publication, a typographical error deleted a portion of a sentence and resulted in a misquotation of the work of Weigelt et al. (2005a). The sentence published in our paper implies that this work reiterated work on 9 paired breast tumors and their metastases already published by Weigelt et al. (2003). In fact, the sentence was intended to state that although the 2003 paper by this group compared metastases from different organs including only one lymph node metastasis with their primary breast tumors, their 2005a paper conducted studies on 15 more paired tumors and their metastases, all of which were in lymph nodes. The purpose of this paragraph of our paper was to explain that all other studies on this topic had been conducted on similar numbers of specimens, because of the difficulties in procuring paired samples.
All other statements, comments and deductions in our 2007 paper remain unaltered. However, for the sake of accuracy and respect for the work of Weigelt et al., 2003, Weigelt et al., 2005a, we wish to publish this minor correction publicly recognizing that their work was published earlier than ours, although the two studies were conducted concurrently, without knowledge of each other. The thrust of our work and the conclusions, which we derived from our studies still differ radically from Weigelt et al., 2003, Weigelt et al., 2005a, but we do appreciate the value and the significance of these other studies.
